Episode 5-11: Dawn’s Rewrite

First off let me start by saying that I did not abandon this blog, I got a job. Which in this economy is no small thing. My new career is in the Bankruptcy Dept of a large financial institution. There’s plenty of work there. So much in fact that we’re all working mandatory overtime.

My wallet loves it but The LOST fashion review is suffering.

I was happy enough leaving the commentary to other people until this episode, which it seems drew mixed review but in my opinion is the 2nd in awfulness only to the episode where Jack gets his tattoo.

The reason this episode was so awful was a mixture of anti-climatic reveals and just plain nonsense that didn’t make any sense at all. This stuff might have worked on any other drama, but this is LOST….

Instead of complaining, I’ve decided to rewrite the episode myself in a way that I would like better.

EPISODE 5-11 : DAWN STYLE

Show opens w/no “previously on lost” and you just either have to know who the hell Cassidy and Claire’s mom is or else figure it out yer self. In fact it opens with a replay of the Sayid shot Ben scene where we see that Ben wasn’t shot in the heart really, cause there’d be no way to survive that.

Sayid runs off, Jin wakes up soon enough that Ben hasn’t bled out yet and manages to get him to Juliet who calls for Jack while shes patching him up.

Sawyer goes to get Jack who does that whole same “I’d rather make a sandwich” bit but drops the bomb that he was being Jack Workman last week and he ‘cleaned’ Sayid’s cell, had a chat with him and decided to light a Dharma van on fire and launch it at a house to create a diversion while young ben lets him out, and then Sayid will shoot him as part of his grand plan….. because he reacts instead of doing all that thinking Sawyer’s been doing.

Meanwhile, in the future, Kate goes to see Cassidy who wonders how the crap she knows Sawyer, who she had no idea was on that plane in the first place. They catch up on what they’ve been up to since they last saw each other. Remark how strange it is they both know the same guy in totally unrelated ways, and then Kate tells her about the secret stash of money and what-not Sawyer has for his daughter that he whispered  to her about on the helicopter, because surely the big secret from Jack isn’t just ‘go see my daughter’.

On the way home, Aaron wants some milk. Kate says shut up and I’ll give you some milk when we get home. He says nooooo I want milk noooooowwww. She says “oh for &*%^%&’s sake” and pulls over at a mini-mart cause she’s not going to go to a grocery store just for a carton of milk wearing Sun’s impossibly high heeled shoes that probably pinch her feet cause they’re not hers.

They get in the mini-mart. Aaron wants a juice box now. “Well you’re getting milk” she says. As she turns to pay for the milk a woman with Claire hair grabs his hand and starts to walk off into the parking lot. Kate throws off her pinchy high heels, runs after her and tackles her to the ground.

She IS Claire and she says “You’re not supposed to raise him, Kate”. Kate gets freaked out and backs off and she disappears with Aaron. We don’t know if Claire was real or imaginary or apparition or what.

Meanwhile on the island in 1977, Juliet saves little Ben and decides the way to handle this situation is to attempt to be the positive influence he obviously must not have had in his young life and starts being nice to him and showing him friendship and kindness and caring and loyalty and all the things he doesn’t quite have as an adult. He will of course, develop a crush on Juliet for this reason.

The episode ends with Juliet offering to do something nice for Ben.. Say she invites him to come over to her house for dinner. He gives a evil Ben smirk so we know the kid will grow up to be the adult Ben we know despite Juliet’s efforts.

*boom*
